Burglar alarm

Burglar Alarms help the property owners detect unauthorized entry in to the protected area. These alarm systems use various types of alerting techniques. Some of them just sound an alarm while others send SMS, emails or even automatically ring the property owners and law enforcement officials to intimate about the intrusion.

Sensor Types

Passive infrared detectors

Passive Infrared Detectors or PIRs help the property owners detect unauthorized entries or break-ins by detecting the abrupt change in the room temperature which results when someone moves around in the protected area. These are wall or ceiling mounted devices.

Ultrasonic detectors

Ultrasonic detectors make use of ultrasonic sound waves that are not audible to human years. When there is movement in the protected area the change in frequency is detected by the sensor using the Doppler Shift principle and sends out an alarm.

Microwave detectors

Microwave detectors are used for both indoor as well as outdoor applications. This type of detector makes use of microwaves to detect motion. Microwave detectors also use Doppler shift principle to detect motion. Sudden shift in the frequency of the reflected energy or the sudden reduction in the energy level triggers the alarm.

Photo-electric beams

Photo-electric beams are used for both indoor as well as outdoor applications. These sensors use visible light as well as infrared beam in stacks of two or more beams. Very effective system for long-range intrusion detection needs. The system raises alarm when the light beam is obstructed by the intruder.

Glass break detection

This type of sensor is used to detect when an intruder breaks the glass. There are acoustic detectors which use sound waves, seismic detectors that detect shock frequencies when the glass is broken and window foil glass break detection sensors.

Smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide detectors

These are used to protect minimize the risk of fire accidents. These detectors are designed to sense smoke and heat and alert the property owners of any possible risk. Carbon Monoxide detectors are designed to raise alarms at the detection of carbon monoxide emission in the protected area.

Vibration (shaker) or inertia sensors

Used to detect attacks on the building or the structure. These detectors uses mechanical components that are unstable which when subjected to attacks break the continuity of the circuit to which they are connected which in turn triggers the alarms.

Passive magnetic field detection

These detectors use electromagnetic field to detect intrusions. The detection system is fully concealed and it is highly reliable. False alarm rate is very low with this type of detectors. The detector senses the anomaly in the magnetic field to trigger the alarm.


This system is used normally to guard the perimeter of a building. This is a concealed system that uses electromagnetic field and measures amplitude change, rate change and preset disturbance time to detect intrusion. Covers up to 4 mts of altitude from ground.

Microwave barriers

Used to create sensitive wall protection through the use of electromagnetic fields of microwave frequency. This type of sensors creates invisible barriers, which when intruded raises alarm. A very good system to protect perimeters.

Microphonic systems

Microphonic systems use noise and vibration to detect intrusion. These types of sensors are used with the perimeter fencing to detect when the intruder cuts the fence or jumps over the fence. Here sensor cables are attached to the chain wire fences to protect a given area.

Fibre optic cable

Uses fibber optic cables and intrusion is detected by sensing the amount of light that is sent through the fibber core. The fibber optic cable is attached to the fencing and it is very easy to install.


Uses electromagnetic field to detect intrusion in the protected area. The intrusion is measured using two coaxial cables that are unshielded which are buried 10cm to 15cm deep. The radio frequency emitted by the cables that are one meter apart is used to detect intrusion when the strength of the radio frequency goes below the preset threshold.

Wired, wireless and hybrid systems

This type of sensor system has two basic components the sensor and a control unit. Signal from the sensor is sent to the control unit. The entire system can be wired system, wireless system or a combination of both which will be hybrid system.

Alarm connection and monitoring

This system has both local alarm as well as remote alarm. Remote alarm comes with monitoring facility. Combination of both remote alarm and local is also possible with this type of alarms. Has wide range of applications including fire evacuation alarm, car alarms and more.

Broadband Alarm Monitoring

This system uses broadband internet connectivity based reporting and alert through the use of Voice over IP technology. Latest broadband based alarm monitoring system come with IP reporting capability which is now being integrated to the alarm panel products.

Radio alarm dual signalling

Here a communication gadget is connected to the security system the alarm signals raised by the security system are using GPRS radio path or via the telephone or IP line. Here multiple signalling is live simultaneously and up to three signalling modes can be added to a single system. This system minimizes the rate of false alarms.

Listen-in alarm monitoring

Listen-in alarm monitoring allows the central station to interact with the homeowner and is found very helpful in times of medical emergencies. In actual case of break-in the central station can warn the intruder to cease. The response units reach the problem venue immediately.

Alarm monitoring services

A central station monitors the alarms and responds depending on the nature of the alarm. The nature of the alarms varies from fire alarm sprinkler to elevator telephone monitoring.

Alarm response

Alarm response is similar to alarm monitoring service. Here the central station responds appropriately based on the nature of the alarm like calling the ambulance or informing the fire department, etc.

Access control and bypass codes

In the presence of the authorized personnel the security system or the intrusion alarm is deactivated temporarily with the use of a code or access control to permit entry or exit. There are different levels and types of access codes including PIN, finger print, etc.

False / no alarms

When a genuine case for alarm is not sufficiently present then it is considered a false alarm or no alarm. Multiple false alarms can result in huge law enforcement fees in many jurisdictions.

False alarm reduction gadgets reduce the rate of false alarms and the resulting confusions.

Cross zoning

Cross zoning is used to reduce false alarms by using multiple sensors monitoring the same area simultaneously.

Enhanced Call Verification

To minimize the false response rate and to avoid dispatching the response units to false alarms, the central stations try to verify the activation of alarm by calling the respective homes or protected premises.

Video verification

Videos are recorded or photos of the protected property are taken whenever there is a change in the local conditions or preset conditions. This works in conjunction with other security systems such as infrared sensors or other similar surveillance systems.

Independent certification

In compliance with insurance requirements the alarm systems installed must be certified by an independent third party. This also includes periodic maintenance checks of the surveillance equipment used.
